Brett Metz

Owner | Lead Project Manager

As it is with most lifelong family owned companies we choose to work with our family and rely on our heritage to carry on the family business.

For the past several years Brett Metz a Durango native and family member of the Enge family has been the primary project manager for Summit Custom Homes.

As Ron enjoys his long-awaited retirement Brett has assumed the role of Owner/President of Summit Custom Homes and the primary point of contact for all Summit Custom Homes business dealings.

With a 20 year background in engineering project management and having grown up in the construction industry with a dad and uncles working in every part of the industry from Concrete, General Contracting, and Excavation Brett has grown up on the business end of a shovel having earned his stripes with real world experience on the job sites.

After many years with Ron as his mentor Brett has assumed the role of President/Owner of Summit Custom Homes. In spite of Ron’s retirement Ron has agreed to remain on board in his advisory  position as the founding father of Summit Custom Home indefinitely providing design and guidance.

Ron Enge

Founder | Project Manager

Ron Enge, President of Summit Custom Homes,  started building homes at an early age in his father’s home building business in Wisconsin.  After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education in 1974, and teaching high school industrial arts for 3 years, Ron started his own custom home building business.  He has been building ever since, moving to Durango in 1978 and starting Summit Custom Homes.

His experience has been in all aspects of the construction industry, including residential, remodeling, and commercial.  For many years he worked on the job with his own crews performing Concrete, Masonry, Framing, Roofing, Drywall, Painting, Finish Carpentry and Cabinetry.

For 8 years he was involved with the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory from it’s start-up.  He built the first company store in Durango, and built the fixtures, furnishings, and the tenant finish on over 90 stores nationwide.

His love of building custom homes, nurtured by his parents, never diminished during that time. Since 1996, Summit Custom Home’s primary focus has been building beautiful custom homes in the Durango area.

Ron and his wife, Janet (a Durango native) have been married over 40 years, and love being able to work and play in a small town as wonderful as Durango.

Don Ford

Ford Architecture

As a small child, I wanted to be one of two things, an architect or an ambulance driver. I have learned that I do not excel in traumatic situations, so that really only left one occupation I really ever wanted to do. Raised in Nebraska, I moved to Durango with my family in 1977 at the age of 12. My architecture career started in drafting class at Durango High School. From there I attended ASU in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. It was a great time to attend ASU since much of their building expansion we witnessed right out of our window with some first class architecture recognized on an international level.

After graduating I came back home to Durango. I worked for Brookie Architecture and Planning for 13 years, working on a wide variety of projects. I went out on my own in 2001, first with Something Creative Designs, then as Ford Architecture once I became licensed as an architect.

Ford Architecture is an architectural firm serving Southwest Colorado with over 20 years experience in architecture and design.
