Our Team

Brett Metz
Owner | Lead Project Manager
As is common with most lifelong family-owned companies, we choose to work with our family and rely on our heritage to carry on the family business.
Brett acquired full ownership of Summit Custom Homes a decade ago from our uncle and founder, Ron Enge, who started the company nearly 40 years ago. Brett and the Metz family are Durango natives, having been in the building industry for over 60 years. As the Owner and President of Summit Custom Homes—and the primary point of contact for all business dealings—Brett looks forward to continuing the family’s building legacy with his son, Ryder, who recently graduated with a degree in Construction Management.
After graduating from New Mexico State University and building a 20-year background in engineering project management, Brett’s dream of building full custom homes in Durango came true. Having grown up in the construction industry, with a dad and uncles working in every part of the trade—from concrete to general contracting to excavation—Brett earned his stripes with hands-on experience at job sites and has truly grown up on the business end of a shovel.
The Metz family enjoys spending time in the mountains, trail riding motorcycles and mountain bikes, and keeping up with our children’s busy schedules as they grow up as the fourth generation here in Durango. Our business is more than just a custom home-building company—it is a lifelong labor of love and a commitment to building exceptional homes for our clients in the town we love.
Brett and his wife Jenifer, married for 29 years, consider it a daily blessing to have raised their children, Ryder and Grier, in a town built by their ancestors.

Rachel Olson
Olson Architects is the realization of a dream many years in the making. A conservative estimate would use the fifteen years that Rachel Olson, AIA, has spent honing her craft with commercial and residential projects throughout Colorado.
To that end, Rachel now joins her love, skill, and collaborative spirit to that of the team at her own firm. Olson Architects is, first and foremost, about connecting with clients. Before anything else, Rachel sits down with the people behind each project to learn about who they are outside of it, because that can inform the project just as much as any specific needs or asks.
The team’s goal is not only to provide solutions, but also to design something that perfectly complements the ways that people interact with space. It is practicality combined with a thorough attention to detail. The result is an intuitively functional space with a distinct and welcoming character.
Education: University of Colorado at Boulder, Bachelor of Environmental Design, major in architecture, December 2005, and is a licensed architect in Colorado.
